    2011-2012

Because our teachers invest much time in preparation, teaching, and record keeping, we believe that they should be compensated financially. Therefore, the following fees and policies are required for EXCEL families:

A.   Commitment to a full term: Our teachers are independent contractors with whom each family is making a financial commitment. By enrolling in EXCEL classes, parents are agreeing to pay their students’ teachers their listed tuition. Failure to do so will result in a family not being allowed to enroll in further EXCEL classes until all previous tuition and fees are paid in full.

B.   Dropping or adding classes: Classes may be dropped or added no later than August 31, 2011, without incurring additional tuition charges. Only one schedule change will be allowed per student per year. Additional schedule changes will cost $25 per change. Withdrawal from a class may be made after this date only at the discretion of the teacher (see “Withdrawal Procedure” on p. 24).

C. Family base administrative fee: A nonrefundable administrative fee of $75 for the first student, plus $20 for each additional student in the same family (Students who only attend SNU, administrative fee is $40.) received by June 15, 2011. This fee covers costs of building usage, liability insurance, and administrative needs (postage, printing, office supplies). The administrative fee is due in full upon enrollment and is refundable only if all classes in which the student has enrolled are cancelled by EXCEL.

For enrollments received between June 16-July 15, 2011, the administrative fee increases to $100 for the first student, plus $20 for each additional student in the same family. Students who only attend SNU, administrative fee increases to $50.

Enrollments received July 16-August 15, 2011 pay an administrative fee of $125 for the first student, plus $20 for each additional student in the same family. Students who only attend SNU, administrative fee increases to $60.

Enrollment received August 16 or after pay an administrative fee of $150 for the first student, plus $20 for each additional student in the same family.  Students who only attend SNU, administrative fee increases to $70.

D.   SNU fees: The fall SNU fee for, General Science Physical Science, Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry and Physics students is $75; for Art classes $55 due with enrollment. Make checks payable to EXCEL. The spring SNU fee (exact amount will be announced—fee is based on total enrollment in the classes) is due December 5, 2011.  Late fees will apply as with tuition.

Study hall/student lounge fees: There is a monthly charge of $10 per student per period enrolled in study hall/student lounge. Many families prefer to pay by the semester. Tuition is $40 per student per semester per period enrolled in either class.

  Monthly tuition:

First month’s tuition for each class is due upon enrollment in EXCEL classes and is nonrefundable.

All monthly tuition payments are due by 2:00 p.m. on the scheduled dates. All payments received after 2:00 p.m. are subject to a $10 late fee per student, per class, per week payable to the teacher. Tuition is due on or before each scheduled date (below) even if your student(s) will be absent on that date because of vacation, tournaments, conferences, etc.

Write a check payable to each teacher and include student’s name on the memo line. Deposit all payments in the tuition basket on the administration table in the Commons when the student arrives for his or her first class of the day. EXCEL prefers checks or money orders but cash is accepted.

Writers of checks that are returned will be responsible to pay all bank charges involved.

Withdrawal Process

EXCEL: Excellence in Home Education expects a twofold commitment from each of its families:

(1) a commitment to consistent student attendance in the class(es) in which he or she is enrolled and

(2) a financial commitment to the tutor for the full term of each course.

Extreme circumstances, such as the loss of a job by a parent or guardian, the death of a parent of the student, or catastrophic illness, will be the only reasons considered for withdrawal after the first two weeks of class. In such cases, every effort will be made to keep the student in class.

Withdrawal requests must first be discussed with the tutor and then submitted in writing to the administrators. Students will not be eligible to enroll in classes during a subsequent academic year unless the withdrawal procedure is followed and until financial obligations from the previous year have been satisfied.

The following procedure must be observed in order to withdraw a student from a class:

  1. Contact the tutor to discuss the circumstances behind the desire to withdraw the student from class.
  2. When tutor and parent/legal guardian have reached a mutual decision to withdraw the student, the parent/guardian should obtain a "Withdrawal Notification" form from the EXCEL administrators. The form should be completed, stating clearly the reasons for withdrawal. The withdrawal form should then be returned to the adminsitrators.

Administrative fees and materials fees for tutors are nonrefundable. Parents are responsible for the full month of tuition in which the withdrawal occurs, as well as for the full year of tuition unless there is a mutual agreement between tutor and parents to waive the remainder of the tuition. A notation of such agreement will be made so that the student may enroll in future EXCEL classes.

Please note again: Students will not be eligible to enroll in EXCEL classes in any subsequent academic year unless the withdrawal procedure is followed and until financial obligations from any previous year have been satisfied.
