History is a Greek word which means, literally, "investigation." Rather
than dry, dusty lists of names and dates, it is an interactive field of research which uses a narrative to examine and
analyze the sequence of events, and it to investigate objectively the patterns of cause and effect that determine possible
future events. During this class, we will learn to use critical thinking skills and to approach history from a Biblical perspective. This
two-semester course will give students a thorough understanding of Oklahoma history and state government with an optional geography component offered for Honors credit. Students will
be required to read the text, answer questions and compose short essays. Class participation will be lively and informative.
There will be various assignments including a speech. We will also spend time looking at the current events within Oklahoma.

In America, everything that we do in our everyday life is touched upon by the Constitution of
the United States and our American government. It protects our liberties and it protects
our freedom of speech. It protects our religion. To be ignorant of our rights is to risk losing them. This two-semester
course covers the ideals that led to the foundation of the American
Republic. Students will examine the founding documents and the ideas behind
them. We will dissect the inner workings of government and analyze concepts such as the separation of power among the branches.
Students will learn why it is vital to participate in civil affairs. Classroom participation is critical. Students will be
required to read the text, take notes and answer test questions. There will be some essays included. We also plan on holding
a mock election towards the end of the year.
